Dr. Moniz is the Chair of the Lime Rock New Energy Advisory Board. He served as the United States Secretary of Energy from 2013 to January 2017 and is currently the principal of EJM Associates. As Secretary, he advanced energy technology innovation, nuclear security and strategic stability, cutting-edge capabilities for the American scientific research community, and environmental stewardship. Dr. Moniz previously served in the Department of Energy as Under Secretary from 1997 until January 2001 with science, energy and nuclear security responsibilities and from 1995 to 1997 as Associate Director for Science in the Office of Science and Technology Policy. Dr. Moniz joined the Massachusetts Institute of Technology faculty in 1973 and is now the Cecil and Ida Green Professor of Physics and Engineering Systems emeritus and Special Advisor to the MIT President. At MIT, Dr. Moniz was the Founding Director of the MIT Energy Initiative, Director of the Laboratory for Energy and the Environment, and Director of the Bates Linear Accelerator Center. His primary research focus has been at the intersection of energy technology and policy, including a leadership role in MIT multidisciplinary studies addressing pathways to a low-carbon world.

Dr. Moniz currently serves on the board of directors of TAE Technologies and Southern Company and has previously served on the boards of directors or as a senior advisor for both publicly traded and private companies in the energy and security sectors. He has received numerous awards for public service, including the Distinguished Public Service Award of the U.S. Department of Defense and the Grand Cordon of the Order of the Rising Sun (Japan). Dr. Moniz is a graduate of Boston College (B.S.) and Stanford University (Ph.D.) and has been awarded ten honorary doctorates in the United States and Europe.
